Puzzle Challenge 3

The last Puzzle Challenge for the term! I reused Monday's puzzle since only two people participated on Monday.

Here's the puzzle:

White to Play and Mate in 6. Assume that Black will always make the move that prolongs the mate for as long as possible. There is a unique fastest solution and that is 6 moves.

Puzzle Challenge 2

The white knight is on a mission to capture all 5 queens in as few moves as possible. Black Queens do not move. The trick? The white knight can only go onto spaces not guarded by a queen. When the white knight captures, it becomes invincible. For example: Nxd4 is a valid move but Nxd4 and then Nf5 would be invalid since the Q on f6 guards f5. How fast can the White Knight complete his mission? Write down your name and # of moves.
PS. This “style” of chess puzzle is taken from the Scholarmate magazine for kids and I like their fun and novel approach to chess tactics.

I believe I have the solution, but there were many people claiming faster white knights. If you think you have a faster solution, please let me know!!

As of Nov 25th, Kit has found a better solution than mine!

Welcome back for Summer 2010

Hello,

Welcome back to those who have been away for co-op! This summer looks like it will be a fun filled term with lots of nice weather! We had our first chess meeting today in the SLC and eventually had the whole club move outside to the SLC courtyard to enjoy some nice weather and chess.

Please vote in the poll on the right if you haven't already done so...we will keep everyone up to date on our next chess club meeting as we're still sorting out a good time each week.

Also feel free to join our facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=30579885591&ref=ts and our mailing list by emailing alfy77@gmail.com.

Cheers,
Alfonso
